Currently

Artivistic is currently in the research phase of a bilingual publication tentatively entitled Promiscuous Infrastructures: experiments in art + information + activism. Rooted in the work of Artivistic's friends, allies, and past participants, the book will set its sights on "autonomous infrastructures" for art and activism. Much more than a venue for the documentation and analysis of Artivistic's activities since its inception, the book will also collect and distil resources vital to artist-organizers. In keeping with Artivistic's tradition of producing non-conventional formats, Promiscuous Infrastructures will be part archive, part manual, and part research document.

Why a book? Since 2004, the strategy of proposing issue-based, punctual events has proven successful. Artivistic's biannual 'eventions' have been established as an important meeting place for an internationally diverse group of artists, academics, and activists. The collective is now seeking to reshape its activities, extending its own creative production in search of new forms of creative engagement with the pressing issues of our time. We see this book project as a way for Artivistic to live year-round, moving away from an intense biannual 'festival' mode into something more consistent and sustaining.

On an international level, artists, activists and scholars are struggling more than ever with increased cutbacks, privatization of public domains, devaluing of arts education at all levels, policing of dissenting practices, and difficulties maintaining multigenerational projects. Artivistic emerges out of these struggles, building networks of solidarity through thought, art and political practice. Taking the book as an opportunity to work with collaborators we have met over the years, we will recognize, examine, and reinforce activist art practices along three key streams: (1) radical education & the production of knowledge; (2) wheeling: intergenerational support systems; (3) dealing: sustainable financing, a.k.a. "the hustle."
